About Out of the Ashes…
Many of us have realized our childhood faith no longer works for us, and have been turned off by the mean-spirited side of Christianity. But there are lots of Jesus-following people who are loving and welcoming and care less about what you believe and more about you as a person. In 2017 I published a book titled “Out of the Ashes: Constructive Theology for those Burned Out on Christianity” hoping to offer alternative ways to think about, understand, and relate to the Divine Presence for those who have been disillusioned or harmed by Christianity.
We often talk of deconstructing our faith, a process of un-learning and letting go of the things we’ve been taught that no longer work or ring true for us. I hope this space / blog / newsletter can be a place of reconstruction. A place of new life. A place of resurrection. A place to come to God in our own way, with open hearts and minds. If you take the time to journey for a time with me and others that might be here, I thank you in advance for the gift of your time, comments, and suggestions.
“Out of the Ashes” is a personal project and not a ministry of the church I serve. The opinions I express here are mine and not the church’s.
A little more about me: I am a gay / queer pastor, author, and poet (or at least I fancy myself as such) who was raised and lives in Michigan. I am ordained in the United Church of Christ. I’ve probably spent too much time in school. I have a BA in math and computer science, an MS in computer science, an MA in religious studies, and a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. And with all that I’m still trying to figure out this thing that is life.
In addition to the book I mentioned above, I have also independently published four collections of my poems. Visit https://timidpoet.com to read my poetry and find out more.
I also have a web presence at: https://pieceofthepuzzle.net.
Why subscribe?
Since I’m currently a minister who is preaching most Sundays, I will offer a Wednesday reflection inspired by the previous Sunday’s sermon. These will be free to everyone. Beyond that we’ll see what develops, but I expect I’ll be writing more as well.
